The most expressive thing Magpie will ever do is yawn. Everything else, they reason, takes far too much energy; body language is a social courtesy, not a necessity. Unlike their brother Spider, Magpie is short and stout, with thick, dark fur that often sticks up in cowlicks around their neck. Their chin and chest is smeared with white, as if they'd wiped their painted front paws across their front. The black fur across their face is broken by two golden orange eyes, much the same shade as their mother.

Magpie's disposition likely earns them the title of killjoy by Kestrel and Spider; they hold a gross dislike for antics and wasted time, reasoning these opinions (and all others) very bluntly out loud. Emberclan, being very new, has sparked a grim duty in their heart to keep it strong - after all, the separation from Fireclan means more to them than the mere outlawing of religion. They no longer feel stifled by a clan-imposed identity. As such - because the repercussions have been eliminated as far as they're concerned - they very openly and flatly correct any misgendering.
Though Magpie has tried to distance themself from their siblings, they've caught a sarcastic bug from the two, but their voice tends to be so monotone it's somewhat hard to tell when exactly they're being snippy. They tend to sound insensitive, especially when asking questions, but the lack of intended vitriol isn't immediately obvious to the outside observer. Further, Magpie doesn't exactly know how to receive affection from anyone. This may be because they've watched Kestrel go without it and figured from an early age being stoic was a strong trait to have. Regardless, they take everything, grooming from their mother, attempts to play fight, all with an unmoving veneer some might find unbecoming of someone so young.
Despite being rather expressionless, Magpie cares deeply for their siblings; it hurts them to imagine a life in which they could not be their sneering selves, and every day, they hope Emberclan remains the place that can protect them all. As far as they're concerned, Kestrel is their real sister.

The sun-quake's wrath had, miraculously, spared Magpie of personal strife. Their life had always been calm and good for as long as they could recall, and watching their adopted sister Kestrel be torn apart for reasons outside of herself, they were thankful for it. Magpie had a mother, a grandmother, and (annoying) siblings to their name, a thing that, as seen, aren't definitives in a kit's life.
Having escaped into Emberclan, Magpie now has the opportunity to live authentically; though their disposition hasn't changed much between Emberclan and Fireclan, they have notably come out from their lapse of silence.
